简介
"Know The Now" was recorded and mixed under the astute attention to detail of Juno Award winning recording engineer, George Seara, at Noble Street Studios in Toronto, Canada. This exceptional, masterfully engineered recording features pianist/composer Christopher Simmons, bassist Artie Roth, and drummer Kevin Dempsey; and is all original compositions. The opening solo piano piece "Launch" is an asymmetric pentatonic piece covering the full range of the keyboard. The title track, "Know The Now" takes us on several journeys. From it's gospel influence, to it's sweet 9/8 melody, to it's crushing powerful drum solo. It is a piece that embodies spirited interaction and grace. "To Be" has a driving force that is constant; playing off of several key centers in the key of B Major; (a key not played often enough). "Cherenkov Blues" was inspired by the Soviet scientist Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov. Cherenkov radiation, is electromagnetic radiation emitted when a charged particle (such as an electron) passes through a dielectric medium at a speed greater than the phase velocity of light in that medium which in turn gives off a characteristic blue glow. Hence; "Cherenkov Blues". This fittingly; is a very fast 6/8 time piece, where it keeps on building. "Eve" is a melancholy piece that has a strong influence in blues and classical. The harmony and dynamics in this piece provide a beautiful backdrop for a timeless composition. The bass solo in "Wake Up" drives forward and pushes the envelope, with carefully intricate flowing lines of subdivision. "Praise The Sun" taps into a happy spirited, funky and playful state with a driving piano solo that takes us to the top and carefully bows out to a soft landing merging into the final section. "4C" brings us back to a classical new age contemporary piano trio format. The piano solo is noble in that it is rich in blues influence, and is carefully developed with patience, passion and power. "New Born" starts out as a simple, sweet and pure melody; which then develops into a cascade of color and continuum. The closing solo piano piece "I Will" makes a statement which is profound, and passionate. It brings us back home to the shores of individual and collective peace.
