Artillerie Strasse - A story of a life - Gary Grevill Hallelujah - Gary is born , he starts his life in Artillierie Strasse Maternity Klinik , on the Ring road. He journeys down as a young man to Lovething Lane , where he falls in love , falls out of love and suffers pain and joy and more joy and pain. His bitterness is reflected as he revisits the Writing on the Wall Skatepark ,where he tries to recapture his youth. He looks at the graffiti on the wall , where he scribed his undying love for Janine. She died in a motorcycle accident when she was only 18. He tries to emulate his former past glories, on a skateboard , but his body no longer responds as it used to. He makes a fool of himself and cocky youngsters look and they think he is a sad old man , they don’t laugh at his attempts at humour and familiarity. He skulks off with their laughter ringing in his ears. Feeling completely deflated he visits Break the very heart of me Platz - the song says it all. He can’t get over his love and feels he will always have to settle for second best. A life in the “mediocre lane”. In the middle of Break you heart Platz you can find the Tomb of the forgotten accountant. Gary in the next period of his life finds some prosperity. He feels he’s arrived when he takes delivery of a new 4 X 4 and now he can afford some nice holidays. He visits the Aloha Reiseburo (Travel Agents). He travels and visits many foreign lands meeting different girls and tries to be interesting by learning a few words in different languages. It makes him feel intelligent. He feels everything is going well he even gets married during this time and has the obligatory brood of two children. He straps a mortgage to his back and dutifully burdened, he trudges off to the next stage of his life Tiger Lily Internet Café , now offers a refuge, for the middle aged Gary. Twenty years have whizzed by , his marriage is infinitely dull , he spends a lot money on chat lines , video rooms and the beautiful Tiger Lilies of this world try to suck him dry. He wants to find some happiness and relief but there is none. Where does he go from here. Next stop is the Holding On Psychiatric Klinik where after something of a nervous breakdown he gets sent to the Klinik by his Doctor. Its there he revisits his past, his lost loves , and lost friends. He tries to hold on to his sanity but dreams constantly of hanging himself as a means of escape. He knows deep down he will never have the courage to do this We now find Gary in the Best Days of our lives Altwohnung (Retirement home) , where he finds himself alone and reflecting on his life. His missed opportunities. The one person he felt truly loved him died at a young age so he feels he has a good excuse for giving up and it was downhill from then on. Did he make too many compromises? Next stop Dead and Gone Friedhof (cemetery) , Gary has been emotionally dead for quite a while but his physical body finally catches up. What had he achieved ? What was his purpose , who did he love? Who loved him? Who really cared? His wife nagged him. His work was tedium itself. His life was grey beyond grey , it was a vacuum. He became like the living dead along with all the other Pendlers.(commuters). Then the final chapter found him alone with his thoughts.
