in 1987 while serving as as a Scout Sniper with the United States Marine Corps, Lance Corporal James Schmidt penned the now famous Marine Christmas Poem entitled, "Merry Christmas My Friend." The poem was meant as a small tribute to his fellow serviceman and women who would found themselves serving far from home and all alone on Christmas Eve. Despite its humble beginnings, Merry Christmas My Friend has now seen Worldwide Publication and has become a holiday favorite with the Men and Women of the US Armed Forces.
