Instead of counter-tenors, this recording features two of the typically opaque and effete sounding modern "high" tenors that some early music afficianados seem to prefer (probably in the mistaken belief that this is what Purcell and Blow had in mind when writing their alto parts).

"The Glory of the Arcadian Groves" and the "Ode on the Death of Mr. Henry Purcell" included on this disc are duds! The first mentioned title received a peerless reading by Alfred Deller in the seventies. John Blow's great lament for Mr. Purcell (text by John Dryden) is the most feeble version of this piece I have heard.
