简介

Blues Cures Studio Jam – Volume 10 While I know it sounds hyperbolic to say that our tenth volume may be our very best Blues Cures Studio Jam CD in a decade of producing these live in studio recordings, but I feel we’ve hit the perfect mix of live spontaneity and great arrangements with this installment. Our idea is to take contemporary blues artists back to the era of one or two take go-for-it recordings in combinations never before heard anywhere at Tony’s Treasures Productions in Cadiz, Ohio, as a means of raising funds to support The Heather Pick Music Program at The OSU James Cancer Hospital. Nearly a decade ago, my mother Mary Hinson, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and she was told that she had roughly six months to live. When she returned home, Mark Puskarich urged her to look into the OSU James, who simply refused to accept that six month diagnosis and the amazing staff at The James facilitated a miracle, saving my mother’s life and ten years later she’s alive and well! We’ve taken some good natured ribbing for not having the ladies represented on our Blues Cures CD’s, so we’re making up big time for that oversight with three powerhouse women on this CD. Fortunately for us, Sadie Johnson and Eryn are both quickly becoming BFAC regulars and we welcomed the amazing Miss Freddye Stover, who was just recognized with multiple Blues Music Award nominations and she’s surely an artist on the rise. Mark and I have both been big fans since hearing Miss Freddye in Pittsburgh a decade ago and we wanted to bring her into the fold. Eryn, of course, helps front The Matt O’Ree Band, comprised of Matt on guitar, John Hummel on drums and Scott Bennert on bass, and were very excited to welcome them back from New Jersey once again with a new member, David Archer on Hammond Organ. Pittsburgh’s Fred Delu also returns for this installment to provide some brilliant work on the Hammond on Miss Freddye’s tracks. We also welcome outstanding drummer Danny Aguiar to Blues Cures along with BFAC veteran drummer Jan Roll and bassist Lenny Paul Fatigati, who steps up for two great vocals on this volume. As always, The International Blues Challenge’s Albert King Award winners are well represented by Bart Walker, Jonn Del Toro Richardson and myself and the aforementioned Sadie Johnson has no problems hanging with this crew on guitar. Our playlist goes from the traditional to even rock as we celebrate the rich tradition of the blues and simultaneously push the boundaries into American roots, soul and even rock! Collectively we salute some of our favorite artists like Otis Rush, Willie Dixon, Bob Dylan and WAR, adding our musical signatures to these gems, wearing the love on our sleeves for our friends and family who have battled cancer. None of this would be possible without the most amazing studio on the planet, Tony’s Treasures Productions in Cadiz, Ohio and the two guys who are the heartbeat of that studio, engineer Cody Romshak (who also contributes wonderful harmony vocals) and producer Mark Puskarich. I can’t forget the Land Lady, Lois Puskarich, who is kind enough to welcome all of the musicians and contribute the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that are the secret fuel for these sessions! (Just ask Jimmy Thackery!) Once again, with loads of incredible talent on board, we’ve assembled a world class lineup of internationally known blues and roots talent performing live in a first rate studio for your enjoyment and, once again, one hundred percent of your purchase price goes to the cause. With that, I thank YOU for supporting Blues For A Cure and making it possible for us to celebrate a decade of great music for a life saving cause! -Sean Carney   Dedications: “I’d like to dedicate my work on this record to my friend and BFAC contributor Wendy DeWitt, who bravely stood up to cancer and is still The Queen of Boogie Woogie!” - Sean Carney “I dedicate my performance to all of the young people that have been in this Cancer battle, especially my niece Domiana Smith and my friend Beatriz Siqueira. NEVER give up and have hope in GOD in the first place...Love you!!”- Danny Aguiar “To my dad, Johnny H. Richardson (deceased), my sister DeLaina Richardson Bradshaw (survivor), and to everyone who is or has been affected by cancer. May this music be the healing.” - Jonn Del Toro Richardson “Cancer is something that affects all of us. Whether a victim, survivor, family member or a friend, I’d like to dedicate my work on this record to the memory of my friend Jennifer M., who showed me what true grace in the face of adversity should look like.” - Lenny Paul Fatigati “I dedicate my performance to John Catt. My mentor. My hero. I miss you every day my friend.” - Sadie Johnson “I dedicate my performance on these tunes to old pal, Paul Neveu. A great singer/frontman for many a band over the years. He is in the middle of aggressive chemo as I write this. God- speed healing brother!”- Jan Roll “I would like to dedicate my performance to my good friend and great musician and comedian Eric Blue. He is winning his battle! Love you Eric!!” - Bart Walker “As a survivor of breast cancer twice, I've always looked for the good in why. As a nurse, I love taking care of my surgical cancer patients. I thought I understood what they went through. But, I was wrong. I knew that when I was first diagnosed in the summer of 1998. I cried for 24 hours straight. No one, not anyone could console me, except my mother. She had battled cancer twice in her life. She was a tough woman. She didn't know what to say to me except this, "get yourself together, your kids need you!" I stopped crying, said a prayer and continued praying still until this day. My mother was the backbone of our family. Single parent, sacrificing, and still faced her own health issues. Cancer finally took my mother's life in April of 2015. It was very sad, because the family did not know. We believed she knew, and being who she was, didn’t want a lot fuss made over her. She had made her peace. My mother had courage and maybe she was scared, I will never know, but, her strength, her love of family, her constant sacrifice, and how proud she was of me being a nurse. This is how I remember her and how I honor her. Singing for life, singing for a cause, singing because its the right thing to do, and singing to heal the heart, the spirit, but never, ever to forget. Amen.” - Miss Freddye Stover “I’d like to dedicate my efforts with this CD to my late sister in law Joy, who recently passed away after a second bout with cancer.” - Steve Mack “I would like to dedicate my performance to some of my fellow musicians no longer with us, Ronnie (Byrd) Foster, Warren King, Ron Beitle and Tom Bellin to name a few... miss you guys.” - Fred Delu “I would like to dedicate my performance to my grandfather William Shewell whom I never got to meet. Before I was born he passed away from Multiple Myeloma, and even though we never knew each other he had a tremendous effect on my life and my family.” - Eryn “I’d like to dedicate my performance to all those who are suffering from the terrible disease of cancer. May this music we create lift your spirits, bring out the sunshine in your life, and most of all to never give up. Our hearts from the Matt O’Ree Band are always with you.” - Matt O'Ree “My performance is dedicated to the physical & spiritual healing of The Bennert Family, The Prusecki Family, and the Arbeeny Family.” - Scott Bennert “Playing this music was a blast and I was truly honored to be a part of this project with all these great musicians and people coming together for a great cause.” - Dave Archer “I’d like to dedicate my performance to all of the people and families of people affected by cancer everywhere.” - John Hummel   Thanks To: A very special thanks to all the artists on this recording who donated their time and efforts. We had two amazing sessions. One in June ‘17 after the BFAC Harrison County concert and one in October as we didn’t want to miss the chance to have Pittsburg double BMA nominee Miss Freddye Stover on our compilation. These amazing artists are beautiful people, incredibly talented, and so much fun to record. To Cody Romshak, my best friend and recording studio engineer, who has amazing passion and patience in the recording sessions. To Steve Mack, an integral organizer of Blues For A Cure, supporter of A Christmas To Cure Cancer, great photographer and good friend. To all who helped organize and pull off Blues For A Cure events in 2017: my wife Irina Puskarich, Cindy Blake, Joe Blake, Tiffany Harrison, Teri Pealer, Scott Smalley, Laura Strickland, and Margarita Crow. To my sister Lisa, for proofing everything on a minute’s notice and catching all the small things. Photographers Steve Mack, Kelly Thornton, and Mark Berger. To my cousins Lori and Rich Milleson, for all their support of ACTCC and BFAC Harrison County. To all the sponsors, especially Hess Energy and MarkWest Energy Partners LP, Dan Jones of Harrison Community Hospital and Scott Porter of Sally Buffalo Park for support of BFAC Harrison County. To the wonderful folks at 10TV and the Columbus Dispatch: Angela An, Tammy Dosch, Karina Nova and Mike Davis among others. We all work so very hard to help make an impact on cancer research and Keeping The Blues Alive. – Mark Puskarich I’d like to dedicate my work on this CD to the memory of my friend Emily Everett of 97.1 The Fan and a huge part of the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer family. Everyone who knew Emily, knew she was one of the sweetest people you will ever meet, and I’ll miss crossing paths on the Buckeye Cruise and helping her out with pictures for 97.1 The Fan golf outings. Emily fought her battle courageously, with strength and the most positive attitude. “Good vibes only forever!” – Mark Puskarich Produced by Mark Puskarich and Sean Carney for Sean Carney’s Blues For A Cure © 2018.
