I don't try to write in different styles or genres but am glad that I do. Usually, it's a reaction to something, whether I'm frustrated with jazz and need to simplify or it's too much of the 3 chord thing. First verses are the easy part but that's when the work begins. Only occasionally am I trying hard to put across a message. Most of the time I really just want something that sounds good and pleases me. Of course that should mean doing this properly in a studio instead of at home, allowing someone else to push buttons, adjust faders, delete, punch in and so forth and so on. But until then, I carry on at home with Logic with its bells and whistles, getting that buzz when, without warning, sound becomes music. And hoping others might feel it too.
