Sean Longstreet is an active educator, guitarist, composer and photographer from Southern California. He studied jazz guitar and music education at the University of Redlands, and instrumental conducting at Sam Houston State University. His guitar playing (and a little trombone playing) can be heard on Hemet High School big band albums, Cool Jazz (2002), Soft Skies (2013), and on RCC’s, A Minor Case of the Blues. His compositions, 5th St. Stomp and City Solitude can be heard on the upcoming big band album from Jeremy Brown’s Jazz Ensemble. Musically, he is influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Pat Metheny, Jim Hall, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Folk, Rock, Chamber Music, World Music, Improvisation, Jazz, Blues, Minimalism, and loopers like Reggie Watts and Andrew Bird. When not teaching instrumental music in Beaumont, Longstreet continues to teach private lessons, compose, arrange, record and perform as a freelance musician. Sean writes mostly for jazz groups of various sizes. In the summer of 2007, his arrangements were performed by the Etiwanda High School jazz ensemble at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and his original piece, 5th Street Stomp, premiered at the Idyllwild Jazz Festival in the summer of 2010. Sean has also written extensively for the theatre, composing and recording original music for productions of Hamlet, Twelfth Night, and Macbeth, together with several experimental shows. His film scores have accompanied several award winning independent films including Jimbo and Marty’s Magnificent Day-Glo Dream-a-Thon.
