When listening to Scott’s music, he kinda reminds me very much of where I was when I was writing and recording my songs back in Liverpool in the late seventies...Scott is a very very good composer and musician. Underscoring the need for the spirituality in us all, “Journeyman” cradles the message within the folds of rock n’ roll, blues, folk, and pop. Eclectic in styles, “Jouneyman” takes the listener on a ride through a firefly’s summer night’s courtship, to the not-so-distant future where cyborg/human existence is blurred, and to eternal themes of love, betrayal, and higher purposes. Below are a series of questions asked in regards to “Journeyman.” 1) Why a second release? I wanted to better myself. I enjoyed the experience of making “Eye of the Storm.” I had a burning desire to express what I was feeling between that record and now. I wanted to do it differently and better. 2) No collaborations this time? Nope. I wanted to have a hand at it all. In the end, I am much more satisfied with the end result. Of course, I only have myself to blame. 3) What influenced tracks like “Trouble,” “Firefly Flight,” and “A.I.”? (Laughs) “Trouble” was written on demand. I was on a road trip with my family, and the joke was passed to me to write a song before we reached Memphis, TN. At the time we were just east of Jackson, TN so I took our literal location as the start of the song. It just wrote itself. “Firefly” was inspired by all the kids that lived in the neighborhood. The boys discovering girls, and the girls discovering boys. It reminded me of my own experiences at that age, and I made it into a kind of send up of a fairy tale. “A.I.” just came from all the changes in technology we’ve experienced. Cell phones to wireless to GPS and so on. 4) Aren’t you worried the spiritual overtones will turn people away? No. I often wish people would be more outspoken in what they believe and stand for. There’s too much “tender footing” going on. I respect other people’s viewpoints, but I am not going to subdue mine just because I might disagree with someone else.
