简介
Questar Welsh has been involved in the music scene for nearly 40 years. Growing up, his favorite music was country music (Hank Williams was his hero) and he tried to teach himself to play on an old acoustic guitar that was around his house. In junior high school Questar heard music coming from the auditorium and found a guy playing an electric guitar. Questar picked up that old acoustic guitar again but it wouldn’t make the sounds he wanted to hear so he found used electric guitar and amp for fifteen dollars. He learned his way around the guitar with the help of some sheet music and records by the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. After graduation, when a family friend asked him what he wanted to do with his life, Questar said “Music”. The friend responded, “Then what are you doing in Rochester? To make it in music you have to be in Los Angeles, Nashville, or New York City!” Questar took those words to heart and moved to New York City. There he found a singer / songwriter that was in need of an arranger / guitarist. On the first day of recording, Questar realized that he had found his calling. He asked the studio owner, Vince Traina to be taken on as an apprentice engineer. Questar jumped into the recording world with both feet. Everything he had learned about music, sound, recording, musical arrangement and production came together in one place - the studio. He spent every weekday at Sound Heights setting up the studio, then watching and absorbing everything he saw and heard until closing at night. Traina also gave Questar a most precious gift: the opportunity to use the studio weekends during the off hours. Friday nights, after the last session ended and everyone left, Questar would stay and work all night. He’d sleep on the floor and start again in the morning. Soon he had picked up a following and clients began requesting him as an engineer. Questar’s personal music continued as he experimented in recording with tape loops of drums, wine glasses and violins. Some of these recording tricks landed him the opportunity to produce custom music for the World’s Fair NASA exhibits in Japan. Questar’s career as an engineer took him from New York to Los Angeles and back to New York again, but he never stopped writing and refining his own songs. In 2007, Questar put together and released the album “Heart at a Crossroads”, an eclectic collection of songs written over a ten year period. Some were recorded specifically for this release, while others were pulled out of storage and digitally remastered. Questar has already started recording a new album “On Your Own” with all new material that is due out mid 2008. Listen to sample tracks at www.myspace.com/questarwelsh.
