No two songs on this album are alike. In the creative process of making this album, a good song would come to me, and dictate its own direction, taking on a life of its own. Then in the studio, new directions would come as I collaborated with eleven fine musicians. Every session I faced three scenarios; one, I know exactly what I wanted to hear, two, I have some idea what I what to hear, so let's noodle until we get it right, and three, I do not know what I want--please help! In the end, my coffeehouse tunes turned into lush arrangements, simultaneously capturing each player's personality while precisely embellishing the song. What I got was ten unique creations. The songs cover the gamut from the funky rock of "Heavy Tricky People" to the jazzy broodiness of "Birthday Vulture", or the complex marriage of of 2 guitar tracks, an acoustic bass, and 2 magical cello tracks on "Sharon & Robin". The "12-Bar Blues" turned into pure swingin' fun. "It's Peaceful Here", my most autobiographical lyric, got lit up by cello and keyboard. "Lower the Bar" found me wandering into the realm of country & western. And "Some Days", the last piece on the disc, really surprised me. I took a ponderous lyric and busy finger-pick and put it in the hands of my co-conspirators. The bass-line put muscle on the skeleton. Two electric guitar tracks brought a whole new energy. Then eight different percussion tracks put it over the top. I had no idea this song was that good. I have elsewhere and repeatedly thanked my fellow players on this project. They are the reason for the title. But one thank you bears repeating. Miguel Manuel Lopez.
