Biography of “Zaynab “Taufi” Shu’lah” Born in Cincinnati Ohio, and raised in South Los Angeles, California, Taufi’ was the fourth child of five siblings in a musically inclined family; living in a household where singing and performing were very much a part of everyday part of life. Seeking a better understanding of herself, her spirituality and completion as a human being; Taufi’ began the journey of seeking her divine purpose in life at a very young age in which later in life the name “Taufi’ ”, was revealed to her through meditation and prayer, which means, “One called directly by God for a specific purpose”, this would be an appropriate name that she would use to describe her purpose for creating music. Taufi’s pre name “Zaynab Shu’lah”, which is rooted in Arabic, meaning; “Aromatic fragrance, bright energetic torch”, was given to her by a very close friend after her enlightenment. The description of this name describes the types of styles she writes in, giving you a preamble of what is to be expected in her performances. Her practiced genres can be presently described as the culmination of; R&B, Old time Soul, Neo-soul, and Funk; Jazz and Alternative. Her music style can be compared to that of R&B’s music icons such as “Chaka Khan”, “Jill Scott” and “Mary J. Blige”. Writing songs, singing and performing since she was about eight years old, Taufi’ has been well versed in the in’s and out’s of music creation and performance; and is quite comfortable in fact “at home” on stage, in the studio, or in collaboration with other Musicians and Artists. She expresses her love and need for God in songs like “Shower Me” and “On you”; and gives a call to discipline in songs like “Settle Down”. The subject matter of some of her songs can be considered somewhat revolutionary to say the least; other’s spiritually convicting and passionate. In her song writing, she attempts to address issues of the world today as well as addressing everyday topics relating to life, intimacy, faith and perseverance. Taufi’ is noted not only for her ability to delivery songs with conviction; she is also an experienced vocal arranger with an ability to combine some of the most difficult of harmonies effortlessly. As a vocal coach and song advisor, Taufi’ has trained several local Artist in developing strategies that helped to fatten up or “color” their song’s if you will; ( as she describes), in order to produce a more refined product for their listening audience. Having performed all over the Los Angeles area for the past year as well as in prior years; in public and private venues, ultimately Taufi’ has currently found herself in the throes of assisting her partner, Producer and friend Mr. Tracy Marlow of T. Marlow Productions (TMP) in developing her new band. Taufi and her band are ready to bring the Funk to the world and take over the radio air waves with cuts such as, “Creek Don’t Rise”, “Your Life”, “Soulgasm” and “Paradise”.
