It was the 80’s / early 90’s. There was punk, glam, thrash and everything in between. Kiss, Motley Crue, Ratt and Quiet Riot ruled the airwaves. In every town across the US, bands were popping up, emulating their heroes. One of these bands did that and more. In Pittsburgh, PA., an unlikely, unglamorous locale at the time, a group of lifelong friends put together the band that was missing from the local landscape. The type of band they all longed to see perform live. They built Sunset Strip. With an electric stage show and over the top onstage antics, this band brought a Vegas lounge act combined with a full-scale 80’s arena rock onslaught to a town that had never seen either. This band had no star, no Prima-Donna. It was comprised of four die-hard music junkies who would stop at nothing to get to the next level, the next town, or even the next party. Playing with the likes of Quiet Riot, Lillian Axe, Saigon Kick, Trixter and many other greats of the era, Sunset Strip built a hardcore following of dedicated fans. Many of their female fans wore less to the shows than they would to bed...and being the 80's, who really ever went to bed anyway, right? Sunset Strip was signed to several independent labels and entered the major label arena more than once. As with many of the bands of their day, Sunset Strip was caught up in the maelstrom of Seattle grunge that ultimately stunted, but didn’t kill the genre of music. These gents are all still alive and well, many of which are still doing what they set out to do - playing music for the masses and gaining fans at every turn. Will there be a reunion? Yes, and it already happened on a limited run in 2011. Opening for the likes of Donnie Vie (Enuffs zNuff) and others, the boys got back together to prove that time can’t slow down the wicked and they’ve agreed that if they’re called upon to do it again, people need only name the time and place and these boys will bring the Sunset Strip to your neighborhood.
