简介
Born Brian G. Reyes in Antioch, California on August 10,1979, SIDEWAYS, (who received that name after a long reputation of getting “sideways” in his 1967 Mercury Cougar as a teenager), started out as a rapper in the streets of Antioch. The product of a single parent household, music was a way out of the cold realities of poverty, as well as a way to release tension that was building in the young artists life. Sideways has always had something to say. And as his audience grew, so did the demand for the sound he dubbed the “YOC KNOCK”. Merging devastating drum kicks with earth trembling bass lines, Sideways found himself within a realm with no boundaries, where he could freely express himself through his music. SIDEWAYS started out at age 16 making “beats” in the basement of the 7th street apartment he shared with his mother, younger brother and sister. Starting with an Alesis SR-16 drum machine that was a gift from his divorced parents, he composed drum beats that he recorded to cassette tapes and sold to up and coming artists at his high school for $25.00 per beat. Having garnered quite the client base in school, did it finally occur to him that he had a bright future in music. Teaming up with local artists Mac Bonez, Martie Bacardii 151 & Playa-T, SIDEWAYS decided to work on a record. Releasing his first record “Livin’ the Life” in 1999, the rapper sold enough cassettes and CD’s to fund his next project “The WildSide” in 2001. With his name in the streets earning more and more notoriety, he released his 3rd solo record entitled “SIDEWAYS” in 2003. The self-titled effort changed the face of Antioch’s underground music scene, as well as how Antioch music was perceived amongst it’s San Francisco Bay Area peers. Following the success of “SIDEWAYS”, the artist released his fourth and final project entitled “SIDEWAYS Presents: Livin’ the Life-The Compilation” in 2004. As he released each record, there became an overwhelming demand for Sideways’ signature production. Artists’ from all over the San Francisco Bay Area were contacting the rapper to acquire production to be featured on their projects. In 2004, SIDEWAYS took a break from rapping and focused 100% of his time on making the transition from an underground beat maker to a full fledged music producer. Branching out of his comfort zone, SIDEWAYS began to work with out of state artists, as well as international acts as more and more people learned about his talent. Making the leap from Antioch to Los Angeles in 2007, SIDEWAYS continues to work with Rap/Hip-Hop artists, RnB singers, as well as clients for commercial advertising and film scoring.
