简介
Michelle Maria Norris is a spiritual folk singer grounded in New Thought principles. Who knew taking guitar lessons as a hobby six years ago would reveal a natural talent for singing and songwriting? Michelle’s core belief comes from knowing on a visceral level that the single most important relationship is with God. If that relationship is in place, all things are possible. She receives most of her songs through meditation, quiet time, or in a dreamlike state. Her ability to receive music is a direct result of embracing forgiveness and fully allowing God to be #1 in her life. Sometimes she gets the words, sometimes the melody, sometimes both. She knows if God provides the inspiration, He will provide everything needed to complete the song. She considers herself God’s instrument. This connection is where the words and music flow in abundance. Michelle’s initial songwriting started with her involvement on a committee responsible for organizing spiritual retreats for women. Michelle would write songs based on the retreat theme, selling her CDs to raise scholarship money for retreat attendees. ‘The Potter’s Clay’, ‘The Wisdom to Know’, and ‘Tired and Ready’ were inspired by themes from her years on the retreat committee. Michelle’s key musical influences are Rickie Byars Beckwith, Ella Fitzgerald, Karen Drucker, Tracy Chapman, Sweet Honey and the Rock, Pete Seeger, and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and raised in Washington DC, she is a graduate of Columbia Union College. Michelle resides in MD with her partner, Tannis, and their four dogs. Michelle is a second alto in the Unity of Washington DC Sanctuary Choir (the best choir in the District of Columbia).
