From a young age he banged away at the old family piano, until it finally gave up, forcing him to take up the guitar, a choice that was probably a good idea. Throughout high school, college and his twenties, he played in bands and wrote songs, winning a few 'battle of the bands' titles and a couple of regional and even international music awards. Now, at 31, Paton lives in Cape Town, where he owns a recording studio and is currently working on a full length album. His songs and story type lyrics are inspired by Africa, but his Anglo Saxon heritage comes through clearly in the style of rock. The Privates The Privates were formed in Cape Town in 1990. They enjoyed a modest career that spanned just under a year. During this time they played many gigs with some of the biggest Cape Town names like Little sister, Big Sky and the Blues Broers. Just as The Privates were developing a cult following lead singer and keyboard player Fling buckled under the pressure and fled overseas to pursue his love interest (who incidently dumped him) As a result of the trauma Fling has developed a tremendous nose whistle. Andrew (Fling) King - vox/keys James (Jimmy Dean) McDonald - guitar/b.vox Alan Benatar - bass Brian (Barranette) Silberbauer - marimba/trombone Kevin (dog) Dixon - drums
