简介
"The oxen," set to a poem by Thomas Hardy, is a work for a cappella chorus that seeks to capture the poignancy of the loss of childhood innocence, told through an old folk tradition of animals kneeling on Christmas Eve to celebrate the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Pastoral harmonies and the addition of a single woodwind instrument (clarinet), perhaps reminiscent of a shepherd’s tune, create a simple picturesque setting of the legend and a man’s yearning for the faith and innocence he lost with his youth. The SRU Chamber Singers is an elite chamber choir consisting of approximately 30 excellent singers. The ensemble performs challenging repertoire with a greater emphasis on a cappella music and modern music by living composers. This ensemble has performed for numerous events, tours each fall, and recently completed a CD recording project of Christmas-themed choral music entitled "Songs of Light."
