A$ton Matthews had quite a freshman year in twenty-thirteen. His debut ‘Versace Ragz’ landed him an opener slot on the European-leg of A$AP Rocky’s Live.Love.A$AP Tour, numerous stages at Austin’s legendary SxSW Music Festival, and billed him for A$AP Ferg’s first nationwide tour ‘TURNTxBURNT.’ Establishing nod’s from A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, and the late A$AP Yam$ - whom he has credited with discovering, building, and mentoring him to where he is now as an artist, the twenty-five year old Los Angeles born artist of Guatemalan decent went on to work with a number of rising artists including; Action Bronson, Ab-Soul, Danny Brown, ScHoolboy Q, Evidence, Flatbush Zombies, Bodega Bamz, Da$h & Retchy P, Prodigy of Mobb Deep, and Alchemist. He aligned himself with longtime friend and frequent collaborator Vince Staples, and more recently his cousin Joey Fatts, all three of which form the Westcoast coalition ‘Cutthroat Boyz.’ In twenty-fourteen A$ton followed up his freshman success with ‘A$ton 3:16’ a project he’s described as, ‘The good times, the bad times, where I’ve been, and where I’m going.’ Recognized not only by his aggression, eclectic metaphors, and unorthodox delivery, Vice described him as ‘Westcoast Gangsta Rap’s Best Kept Secret,’ and the next time Vice would meet A$ton would be to collaborate with 30 other rising artists in Noisey’s Rap Monument, a feet never before conceived in hip-hop. For the remainder of twenty-fourteen A$ton managed to be billed on tour with Danny Brown, The Flatbush Zombies, and gain attention from The Fader, Complex, and XXL. A$ton met twenty-fifteen as an unsigned and proven buzz-worthy artist with two major label features, Vince Staple’s ‘Summertime ’06’ and Bodega Bamz ‘Sidewalk Exec.’ His latest project, ’Chapovelli’ is self described to XXL Magazine as his ‘sacrifice’ to the game, and his explanation embodies every meaning of word. “This is what I have, it’s all on the line, take my artistry for what it is.” Due sometime the first quarter of 2016, A$ton’s never struggled to harness a listener’s attention, and in this over saturated genre where artist ‘create’ music, A$ton lives every moment of it.
