Passengers is a VA sub-division of Simina Grigoriu’s Kuukou Records which has so far platformed emerging artists from Turkey, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Russia and the UK. Each record across the 10 additions to the series so far has been functional and direct; Techno with sufficient force to power warehouse dance floors and big room club spaces. No. 11 in the series is a 3-track EP including tracks from Anina Owly & Thomas Klipps, Fruhwerk and Alec Ben & Paul Division. German duo Anina Owly & Thomas Klipps kick things off. Hailing from Freiburg, the pair have respectively racked up a slew of punchy, minimal records and are both very versed in working together to move dance floors. 'Capybara' is a stripped back but frenetic jam that churns through mangled frequencies, explosive tones and a kick that rolls like a tank. Mannheim / Vienna based Frühwerk then follows up releases on Solamente, Set About, Reload Records and EXTIMA with a fast-paced rocket which contrasts stone-clad drums with pop vocals and a certain 90s nostalgia. Alec Ben and Paul Division then close things off with a magnetic, dubby banger. Drums are neat, heavy and forthright as that smack under a synth that crashes and rolls like a turbulent sea. Stabs and vocal hints bring in a psychedelic element towards the end of a multifaceted release which can be pulled out of the bag across the beginning, middle and end of a memorable party.
