JUST B U – Harve Mann Unplugged All songs written by Harve Mann except #3 by Harve Mann & Denise Ronayne and #10 by Paula Mann Notes from Harve JUST B U started out as a straight ahead piano/vocal collection. I added strings and harmonies to some of the tracks and also included a few songs on guitar. For those loving folks who might be interested, here’s some quick info regarding each track. 1. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN – I wrote this during an English class about my college girlfriend. Over the years it has been recorded by some wonderful singers in a few different styles. This recording was done around 2012. 2. THE SEEKER – I recorded this on a four track disc player while performing in Las Vegas. After experimenting with some remastering, I decided the untouched softer original had more warmth. That’s the one I used here. 3. EVERY DAY WHEN YOU WAKE UP – When we first moved back to LA around 2003 I used to get up and improv a version of this every morning. Denise began to join in. We decided to put real lyrics to it and make it a children’s song. This version like the majority of this collection was recorded in 2014 for this album. 4. JUST B U – Originally written on guitar as a jazz waltz around 1975, it evolved over the years into the version heard here. 5. MORE LOVE FROM STRANGERS – In performing this song live I’ve found there are many people who relate to this, especially in LA. 6. MY LAST LIFE – A new arrangement of a tune which first appeared on COMEDY FROM MY PAST. 7. MR. AGENDA MAN – Got the title from Denise. The rest seemed to write itself. 8. ALMOST THERE – Also a new version of a song from COMEDY FROM MY PAST. 9. NEVER LOVED ANYONE – A new recording of a personal favorite from the late eighties. 10. IF I DON’T PUT YOU OUT OF MY MIND/PLAYIN’ THE FIELD – Two songs written by my major musical inspiration, my mother Paula Mann. 11. NEVER CALL A MONSTER – An excerpt from a longer piece. I thought this snippet said it all. 12. 100% -- I keep revisiting this tune. 13. STILL RIDIN’ THE SUBWAY – I wrote this while living in Madhatten in the eighties. 14. FIND THE BEAUTY – Advice to me. 15. THAT OTHER DOOR – I do believe there are parallel realities where if we choose to, we can redo (hopefully better) our current lifetime. 16. SHOPPIN’ 4 1 – While I love the original with the high harmonies at the end, this is the way I’ve performed this one live over the years. The song gets laughs as a comedy song here in LA., while I remember people back in Philadelphia taking it more seriously. A lady once asked me not to do it because she thought it was too sad. 17. B TRUE 2 U – Recently remastered from a 1995 recording, I felt it belonged here. 18. PERHAPS IN THE NEXT LIFE – My most covered song. I love Tiny Tim’s sensitive rendering of it . Charee used to bring down the house at all our shows performing this song. 19. SNEAKIN’ UP ON ME (Instrumental) – Originally recorded in the ‘90s for an exercise video, I chanced upon it recently and decided to add it here as a bonus track.
