DAVID RUBINSTEIN A resident of Los Angeles, David Rubinstein has participated in recording sessions for all the major film studios, including several on-screen performances, and has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe with appearances including Zipper Hall in Los Angeles, the National Gallery of Art, London's Wigmore Hall, Lincoln Center, the Whittier College Bach Festival, the San Diego Convention Center, the Dame Myra Hess Series in Chicago, and numerous international radio broadcasts. Born in New York City, David Rubinstein began playing the piano at age six. His acclaimed world premiere recording of Sibelius piano works, made at the age of 21, was released by Musical Heritage Society, and has currently been re-issued on the Musicus Recordings label. He studied piano with George Kochevitsky and later participated in master classes with Claudio Arrau. He currently performs a wide range of repertoire from Bach and Scarlatti to the present and his recordings appear on the playlists of major broadcasting services in the U.S. including Classical24, K-Mozart (Los Angeles) and Pandora. Edvard Grieg's Lyric Pieces Edvard Grieg (1843 – 1907) was a Norwegian composer and pianist, best known for his Piano Concerto, his Incidental Music to the play Peer Gynt, and his collection of sixty-six Lyric Pieces for piano, composed between 1867 and 1901. Similar in stature to Chopin’s Nocturnes and Debussy’s Preludes, the collection includes several of his best known pieces, such as Wedding Day At Troldhaugen (Bryllupsdag på Troldhaugen), To Spring (Til våren), March of the Trolls (Trolltog), and Butterfly (Sommerfugl). In his Lyric Pieces a distinct Norwegian profile is blended into a romantic-poetic style that is universal in its message. Among the Lyric Pieces one finds a variety of intimate moods as well as larger, virtuoso works. In many pieces, Grieg's harmonies are quite novel and anticipate Debussy and Ravel.
