This song is about surviving a really rough part of Los Angeles right off 3rd Street and Rampart Boulevard which belongs to Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department or LAPD; Rampart District. Rampart has long since had a reputation for playing dirty planting false evidence, excessive use of force, murder-by-cop, extortion, and department-wide corruption. Growing up I didn’t realize how bad it was until about 96’. I was thirteen years old. I go back to the old block all the time, and it’s 96’ all over again. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. People may think, “if it’s so bad, why don’t you just move out of the neighborhood? Go someplace better.” But for the families who live here including mine, who’ve lived in the same house for over 30 years, we don’t run away when things get bad. We stand our ground. Rampart is home.

The track is also about getting your comeuppance. About having to face real-life, painful, adult consequences after the party is over, and you realize you made some bad choices you can’t take back. And no matter how close your family is, your circle of friends, homies, nor how much your man/husband or your woman/wife loves you, the responsibilities you carry are YOURS ALONE. No one can fix/improve/upgrade/save your life, except you. So step up and OWN IT.
