Martin Kearns says, “Holly Allen is one of the most enchanting artists I’ve worked with. She manages to combine a sincere innocence with the maturity of a full grown woman. It is not possible to hear her and remain untouched by her spirit.” With a voice real and as honest as they come, Holly Renee Allen delivers Americana soul. Her songs are rich and vibrant, lyrically intelligent... "Southernese" sets the tone for RED DIRT SOUL. An eclectic collection of the usual love, heartache, sex and longing but bold as a ruby camellia blooming in the Georgia red clay. There is alitlle something on here for everyone. Martin Kearns brings together some of Atlanta's finest pickers and singers to RED DIRT SOUL. Shawn Mullins is featured on First Time Love Kind of Thing, he and Tommy Dean bring harmonies to The Way nothing short of The Blind Boys From Alabama. Oliver Wood of The Wood Bros. lends his voice and guitar on Red Dirt Soul, Long Time Gone and Old Flames. Gerry Hansen (drums), Robert Henson (bass), Colin Agnew (percussion) and Valerie Peyton (background vocals) are the back bone for this CD. The two cover songs Old Flames and Mama You've Been On My Mind are tailor made for Holly and this CD. She puts her own twist on each of them. Old Flames was recorded sparse and raw with the intimacy of a front porch pickin' party. The musical chemistry between Oliver and Holly is easy, comfortable as a well worn pair of boots. Rick Hinkle plays dobro so fine on The Last One Left leading into Mama You've Been On My Mind it is seamless. The two stories blend two generations and paint such a picture it leaves the listener wanting more... There are 13 tracs on RED DIRT SOUL. There is a little something for everyone to rock a red dirt soul...
