Atlanta’s Martin Kearns says, “Holly Allen is one of the most enchanting artists I’ve worked with. She manages to combine a sincere innocence with the maturity of a full grown woman. It is not possible to hear her and remain untouched by her spirit.” The musical chemistry between Allen and Kearns was so good on Red Dirt Soul they put an acoustic project together late 2012. Big Love is HERE! With a voice real and as honest as they come, Holly Renee Allen delivers Americana soul. Her songs are rich and vibrant, lyrically intelligent…Big love is collection of 10 songs that lyrically could be a book of short stories of the South, illustrated in living color with mandolin , bass, guitar and piano. Brazilian percussionist Rafael Pereira brings an element of surprise making it hard to define a genre. Holly Renee Allen is a Virginia native, grew up at the foot of the Blue Ridge in the Shenandoah Valley. She was born and bred from generations of country and bluegrass and raised on The Beatles, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt , Dylan and such. Holly has played throughout the southeast. She had the good fortune to work with legendary producer Johnny Sanlin as well as stellar musicians Bill Stewart, Pete Carr, David Hood, Spooner Oldham and Scott Boyer. Holly’s song “Her Place” is the title track of Sanlin’s compilation CD, a benefit project for Alabama’s Hope Place, a women’s shelter. This project opened the door for an appearance on WAAY-TV’s early show, WAFF-TV news, as well as www.liveonthenet.com . Holly has been a guest performer for the Muscle Shoals Songwriter Night and at the Crossroads Café. She also played Decatur’s Princess Theatre sharing the stage with Carla Russell, Scott Boyer and Leroy Parnell. Holly’s song “Miss Christine” was given honorable mention by the John Lennon songwriter’s contest and she is a member of ASCAP. In 2002 Holly was a featured artist for Chattanooga’s River Bend festival giving her the opportunity to work with Atlanta musician and producer Marty Kearns. While living in the Atlanta area Holly has been a guest on WRFG FM Blues in the Morning Show, she played Atlanta’s Red Light Café, Smith’s Old Bar and Eddie’s Attic to name a few. Big Love is the fourth and follow up to Red Dirt Soul. Both CDs were produced by Martin Kearns. These songs weren’t cranked out of some gentrified Nashville writer’s room. There’s nothing imagined here. These songs are the real deal: calluses and blisters, dust, dirt and sweat." Grant Peeples The ride through all the music was everything from Santana-like, hard – driving songs to the stark naked guitar/vocal tracks and everything in between. Her words spell such raw honesty that you would swear you were right there inside every song. A witness to the beauty, but also the hard knocks in life, she dances in the company of artists like Tony Jo White, Ry Cooder and Bobby Gentry. But only Holly Renee Allen can dish out her own story songs like nobody’s business, in RED DIRT SOUL, her current cd.
