Lyric's, Lyrics, Lyrics ..... in this album you can actually hear the Lyrics. Good music doesn't have to be all about vocal aerobics. It doesn't have to be about hollywood glitter. I don't look good in a bikini either. But I can lay it down good. I'm from the generation that grooved to the early days of the Beatles, Led Zepplin, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Elvis. This was a time when a song writer could move the world and change history. So if you're gonna emulate some one, might as well be the best, right? I write songs to entertain, to tell a story or spread an idea .... If you don't have anything intelligent to say then why bother. I'm a musician who has been around awhile. I can pick or strum a guitar, pluck a bass, spank a drum kit, bang or tickle the ivories, blow a harp, whatever the song requires. This collection of songs I put together with 3 themes in mind. - songs that would be of interest to multi generations - songs that identify and herald my musical influences - and songs socially aware of issues that affect the future of the generations that follow. I called the CD Middle Ages for 2 reasons: - I'm part of an older generation of musicians - and I believe if we don't get our act together on "Global Warming" and all the other issues of our times, we may just throw our civilization back to the middle ages. So, shall we sit quietly and head towards a dark night? or shout from the roof tops, hoping for a ground swell of support for change. Yeah, I'm still an idealist at heart after all these years. The first track is a fishing song, a boy and his Grandfather spending the day. The title comes from an old joke about a one armed fisherman who caught a fish that was "This Big". Anyone whose ever picked up a pole and bucket of bait knows that the best part of fishing is all about spending time with family or friends, having a good time, sharing a few laughs. Can't recall hearing any other fishing songs in all the years? "Another Lennon" is about chasing your dreams and meant as a tribute to honour the Beatles because they were the best. "Frontier" takes you back to the days of the pioneers who opened up the continent. My ancestors came in 1650 and 1855. Both matrons were named Mary. The harmonies sound just a little like Neil Young? You can hear this and a few other songs on youtube if you key in GregSheere "School Now" I wrote for my granddaughter 6 days after she was born, and yes I may have been jumping the gun by sending her off to school, but life is about learning right? "Stop" is a song about what may happen if we ignore what we are doing to our planet. "Fishbowl" the cost of singing for your supper. I needed a song to demonstrate how we as a people have a tendency to ignore warning signs. I sat down and wrote "Unread". I was inspired by Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven. My song is closer to a doorway to hell. "Just be Nice" I wrote with Elvis in mind, but I just can't seem to get the hip swivel right. "A Thousand Cheers" is a song I wrote 30 years ago in a London bar called Call the Office. I was with a punk band at the time. The song celebrates all the bar maids and bar scenes I wasted my youth on:) "My MLC" The great thing about being a song writer is you can have a mid life crisis on paper instead of going to Vegas and losing the farm. "Crazy Old Coot" is for all the closet alcoholics. I was fresh out of high school working at a place where most of the bosses liked to drink on the job. They would send me out to pick up their "Beefeater Gin" and I'd sneak it in for them. Cheers. "In the Country" reminds us of how beautiful nature is, "Legacy" also reminds us who and what we need to fight for. "Ball Crushing Sally" always makes me smile. I rated it for content, but it's really just suggestive. You've heard the song Kansas City? "some crazy little women there" …... this song tells the rest of the story. I wrote it 30 years ago. People still ask me to play it. Global warming is one thing, but the lowering conscience and morality of society is another. "Please Don't Shoot Me" deals with the papparazzi and another cost of reaching for the stars. One more reason why I chose to become a music teacher for the last 26 years. This collection of songs will entertain you, It'll make you think. Hope you check it out. Greg Sheere
