Home is an album I have wanted to do for a long time. I have so frequently been asked about my background — especially while concertizing abroad — that I wrote a set of folk song settings representing my heritage: English, Irish, German, and Scottish. Since the premier was set for a concert at the Club for Music and Literature in Wroclaw, I also included a Polish folk song. In addition, my work with Polish folk music helped awaken interest in the folk traditions of my own heritage.

From that beginning followed settings of American hymns which have meant a lot to me and original songs reflecting my own thoughts on the meaning of “home,” growing up in Indiana, and my current home in Chicago. I am also fond of the modern deconstructions of traditional ballroom dances and the reflection on the American experience inspired by the Four Freedoms paintings of Norman Rockwell. There are many aspects to growing up American, I hope you enjoy my particular perspectives!
