Dan Manjovi is a pianist/keyboardist, vocalist, composer, lyricist and performer. His music and arrangements have been featured on film stage and television, and have been performed and/or recorded by Michael Feinstein, Grace Hightower, the Donna Summer, among numerious others. His song, “Somethin’s Comin’ My Way” was written at the request of Oscar-Nominated Director and Filmmaker Lee Daniels for the 2010 Academy Award-winning Lionsgate Film Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire. The soundtrack recording also appears on the Universal-Interscope label and was produced and arranged by Manjovi for the label. Dan has released two solo albums Dan Manjovi (2005), Woke Up This Morning (2008), and his song “Things’ll Get Better” appears on the Compilation CD United For The Ride (2009). He is a multiple ASCAP Popular Award Winner, and he is a recipient of Backstage Newspaper’s Bistro Award for Outstanding Singer/Instrumentalist. Manjovi is an annual favorite at New York City’s Bryant Park Piano In The Park Jazz Piano Series, and his new romantic musical comedy, I AM, I WILL, I DO is currently in development with New York’s renowned Amas Musical Theatre. As a performer, Dan is an active member of Actors’ Equity Association, and has been featured either as performer or musical director at some of the country’s top regional theaters including Denver Center Theater Company, Arizona Theatre Company (Master Class), as well as notable workshop productions including George Furth (Company, Merrily We Roll Along) final musical project The End (2006) with music by Doug Katsaros. Dan has appeared in concert at many top music venues including the Beacon Theater, Bitter End, The Metropolitan Room, and The Carlyle Room in New York City. As a featured performer of his music, Manjovi has appeared either solo or with his band alongside notable artists such as Elvis Costello, Nellie McKay and John Mayer and the late Allan Toussaint. This wide range of writing and performing experience informs all of Dan’s work, including the score and libretto of I AM, I WILL, I DO, for which he has written book, music and lyrics, and is currently in development with Amas Musical Theatre in New York City. Manjovi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from New York University and did post-graduate work at The Julliard School. He is a protégé of renowned voice teacher Katie Agresta, and jazz pianist Joanne Brackeeen. As an educator, Dan served on the faculty at HB Studio in New York City for over twelve years, teaching Voice and Vocal Performance. He currently teaches weekly group Vocal and Performance Technique classes, and maintains a busy private studio practice, seeing over fifty students weekly. A lover of books and literature, Dan has served on the Host Committee for the LAMBDA Literary Awards for the past four years. Dan resides in Harlem, NYC with his husband, Kermitt Brooks.
