Whilst always preferring his love of the more traditional country music sounds with plenty of steel guitar and fiddle, listen to the first few tracks on this album and you will find covers of songs recorded by Ernest Tubb, Billy Ray Cyrus, Gram Parsons, Hank Snow and Hank Williams, and a lesser known song from The Thrasher Brothers. There are plenty of country classics, a couple of original songs from the catalogue of Tony’s company Sylvantone Music originally recorded in 1992 at the request of the many U.K. lovers of songs about the American Civil War, and even a Hawaiian song, usually performed by Tony on stage as an instrumental by his long time partner in his duo, trio and band bookings, Arthur Layfield. He has often marked various landmarks in his long career with special album releases. In 1976, to mark his 20th year of singing country music, he recorded ‘Thanks to the Hanks’, a tribute to his early influences Hank Snow, Hank Williams, Hank Locklin and Hank Thompson. Five years later in 1981, as well as promoting a sell-out concert at the 1300 seat Royal Hall in Harrogate, his ‘25th Anniversary Album’ took a look back 25 years, including his now famous ‘Skiffle Medley’. His ‘40th Anniversary Album’ in 1996 was, in fact, a double album, including. 21 newly recorded songs, and in 2006 his 50th Anniversary he arranged a nationwide tour (30 shows in 28 days) with his good friend George Hamilton IV. Although by now retired from his hectic ‘life on the road’, for his 60th Anniversary in 2016 he released another digital download album ‘60th Anniversary Album’, available from Cdbaby.com Apple, iTunes, Amazon and most similar sites.
