I paint stories that I see (end lyric) ABOUT THE SONG SONGPAINTING is a multicultural project I produce with musicians, visual artists and poets. I use songs to illustrate paintings, and show the paintings when I perform, or online. Whenever I can I bring in artists I know in Chicago, and they illustrate a song – or we write something new to describe their work. Painter Gabriella Boros - www.gabriellaboros.com, was born in Israel and speaks fluent Hebrew. Her mother is Hungarian. When I met Gabriella she loved to dance the folk dances of Isreal. Several decades later, I saw her Series Woman of Valor and wrote these lyrics inspired by her and for all of the women who came before us! In the Jewish tradition the husband sings Eshet Chayil (Woman of Valor) to his wife. My song Footprints in the Snow is based on Gabriella’s translation of the Hebrew translation in the Book of Proverbs. I rewrote and added to the proverbs, by weaving descriptions of the painting series Gabriella did -including her amazing COLORS - into a song lyric and in our song, I sing about women – and their stories, too. The names I chose are Jewish, Hungarian, and names in nature – flowers and jewels. -Jamie O'Reilly
