Hailing from Alexandria, Louisiana, Afro Sensei, born Kevin Clarkston, developed an interest in music early, starting piano lessons at the age of nine, eventually learning alto saxophone and teaching himself guitar as a teen. Always one with an open ear, his influences are a mish mash of everything from Beethoven to Daft Punk, 70's funkmasters and disco architects Parliament Funkadelic, Donna Summer and Chic as well as 80's and 90's pop, R&B, hip hop, hard rock and house. Such eclectic taste seeps into the grooves of Bougie Beats, his debut EP. From the one-two punch of pounding happy hardcore techno opener "Euphoria" and pummeling industrial grind of "Terrordome," to the breakbeat-meets-trap mashup of "Beat The Breaker" and the endlessly deep house of "Nightlife" and "Un Peu Maison," the EP revels in dance music's past while giving it a 21st century tweak.
