简介

This album is essentially a soundtrack album featuring music created for the 40th Anniversary Revival of the play "The Sirens of Titan" at Sacred Fools Theater Company. Adapted by Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) from the novel by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. and Directed by Ben Rock. It was an honor to have had the opportunity to score original music for this show. Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. has been my favorite author since my mother loaned me her 1973, “Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.” box set. His language spoke to me and his work was able to keep my attention from start to finish. That would have been enough to peak my interest, but when I learned that the adaptation was written by Stuart Gordon, I knew I had to do what I could to make sure I got this gig. A huge horror guy, I’ve been a fan of Stuart’s for years. From "Re-Animator" to 'From Beyond' I’d been hoping to work on one of his shows for some time. Additionally, I’d known director, Ben Rock for years, but the opportunity to work together hadn’t come along until Sirens. Working on the Sirens score was a pleasure and a ton of fun. Original scoring of a play can be a challenge as you don't have the visuals to work with like in film scoring. The better the communication with the director, the better the results. Ben was fantastic about taking the time to explain his vision and how music should function in each scene. He took the time to answer questions and was very open minded about my ideas. One of the things I love most about my job as a composer is that I get asked to do something different every day. Sirens is a fun blend of Sci-Fi, epic orchestral, lush vocals and psychedelic 70’s rock but also required some fun source music. Whether it was gospel for "The Church of God The Utterly Indifferent" or groovy late-60s party music for Malachi Constant’s party… it was fun to be able to put on different hats within a project. The score shifts to a more orchestral palate when we are talking about the Martians, and of course… The Sirens themselves, voiced by the wonderful Emily Kosloski. Maybe my favorite moments of the score are when I got to blend these different styles together. The final piece in the show that leads us to curtain call, "Somebody Up There Likes You" is very representative of my musical stylings and love for fusing different styles together. Orchestral, metal and even dubstep are represented in this piece... which friends who've heard it have described as "Very Michael Teoli". Probably the greatest compliment a composer of a score can get is for the director to suggest releasing a soundtrack album. I hadn’t thought about it until Ben suggested it, but upon looking over what we had done I realized that it was indeed something I’d like to share. I hope you enjoy!
