‘The Number 9,’ the number of regeneration, a new birth. It is also the number of spirituality, self-extension, premonition, going forth, voyaging, dreaming, clairvoyance, reformation, nebulosity, pulsation, rhythm, reaching out, extension, publication, prediction, apparition, wraith, mist, cloud, obscurity, exile, aggressive action, penetration, conflict. I’ve been waiting a long time to release an album of its nature, back when I was on my second CD, but everything is about timing, and now, I feel as though I can fully embrace it. The Number 9 is the number of originality. I can say that has been the first time the concepts for the poems were inspired by the music. Prior to this album, almost my entire portfolio of poems had either previously been either in silence or developed listening to other music. I always picked out the beats afterwards. But there’s a first time for everything. The Number 9 is the number of mystery, and a thought-wave. I knew the direction I wanted to take with this album, and the roots of the CD were going to be the music. The dark tone, the smooth melodies, the clairvoyant themes, the uncanny rhythms, truly, if you could listen to my heartbeat, it may play a sound similar to the tracks on this CD. My years of producing made this CD possible, but while I am foremost a Poet, I feel as though the tracks are just as important as the words. And just as I was wondering if the writing was going to be secondary, the music in turn possibly brought out my most mature work to date. The Number 9 is the number of revelation. This album stands alone, it has a totally different feel than any album I’ve released before it, but I am not weary that it may be of acquired taste, there’s a place for everything. So this isn’t the type of CD you play at a party…this is the type of CD you want to turn down when you roll pass the police, it’s the type of CD you want the volume low when you drive through the Bible Belt, it’s the type of CD you listen to with the lights out and with your friends around playing the Weejii board, the type of CD you listen to in your headphones when you walk in graveyards. I've grown from the first word I’ve spoken, from the first Novel I wrote, from the first CD I dropped, enough to even condemn myself for previous poems I’ve written, I’ve seen God in so many things, even in the words of those that try to tear down his message, and the Number 9 is my definition to those lesson. The Number 9, is the number for courage. The second I had the audacity to get on stage and let the lights shine on me, my job has been to make people think, no matter how uncomfortable it makes them. I know some of the subjects and viewpoints I’m bringing forth in this album, in different times I would’ve be hung, and in today’s times I could be shunned, but I’ve never held my tongue for no one. The Number 9…is also the name of my 9th CD.
