Imagine a ballroom filled with dancers, young and old, a jazz sextet in the New Orleans fashion (we even use the brass bass!) thumping away to keep the people moving. All up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Southside Aces have been playing for listeners and swing dancers since 2003. The songs on this, our fifth album, derive from a residency at the Eagles Aerie #34, where we've held forth the past few years. Second Thursday is named after that night each month we meet to feature a different artist or composer from jazz history. Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet, and Duke Ellington have all had their nights, as well as the Gershwins, Johnny Mercer, and Irving Berlin. Just to name a few! The photos on the album show us at the bar and on the stage of that magical joint. If you ever find yourself free on a Second Thursday, look us up!
