His 1st, I've Got A Long. Long List, had songs about life's maladies. His 2nd album, Everybody's Gunnin' 4 Me, delivered a few Pistol Packin' Paranoiac Perceptions, so I guess love and broken hearts was a natural progression for his 3rd CD. As anyone who knows about numerology can tell you, 3 is the number of self expression and JD2 delivers with his own expressions of loss and heartache to sadness and sarcastic humor. This is the straight forward JD2 approach at its best. Not too deep, not too complicated, just right up front. In an article from the Rippling River Review & the Help Wanted section of the local super market bulletin board, JD2 said: "Many of my songs come from my experiences. They're not always happy, sometimes you gotta be humorous to get through the pain." 3R&HW: Is there a method you use to create a song? JD2: No, the method in my madness comes in different ways, but most of these songs are written in a pre 60's time zone. By that I mean, most of them are short. But as W. C. Fields said, (Don't brag about it! I'm only five foot eight myself.) Me, I'm 5'11'' to 6' depending on how swollen my feet are. Most of these songs are 2:30 to 3:00 minutes. They're short enough to listen to without going crazy. I like the quick variety of slow, fast, happy, sad. 3R&HW: You have lyrics inside this album but you’ve also included a few pictures. JD2: Well it's just something to share with folks that can't catch me on the highway. I couldn't afford pictures, except a small one, on my first CD. 3R&HW: How did you settle on the subject of love? JD2: I could say I settled on it gently, with tenderness and passion but you might get the wrong idea so! I'll just say I've had as many struggles with love as most people. Some folks are lucky in love, others are like me. I stand on the highway of life and play my songs to passersby but I also connect on different levels. Like the search for trust, love, and truth. I'm not sure which one is harder to find. I've struggled with all three. I play for truckers, campers, trash trucks, motorcycles & commuters of all kinds and I'm grateful they enjoy seeing me out there. But I know many of them are going to jobs they hate while others are going to places they love and some are going to places unknown. Unknown people with unknown faces, looking for trust, love and truth in what they see. Just like me. 3R&HW: Is the mystery of the unknown important to you? JD2: I don't know if it's important but it's fascinating. You never know who you might see or what might happen as a result of an unexpected event. You never know what's waiting around the corner till you get there. I've always enjoyed looking over the next hill. I don't like being walled in. I was finally lucky enough to recognize and then chose the path I'm on right now, so it works for me. I wasn't pushed or guilted into it like other roads I've traveled. 3R&HW: Do you have another CD in the works? JD2: Yes, it's called, Short Time. Which refers to the limited length of time we all have on this Earth and how some of us use it wisely while others take it for granted. In any case, we don't get much of it. (compared to the length of time the Earth has been spinning around.) Can you dream of a world where human life lives for a thousand years and we all have someone to love & trust? 3R&HW: To be honest, that's a stretch. JD2: Ya, I suppose you're right. I dream a lot. I was punished for dreaming when I was a kid. Now I'm paid for it. I've legitimized my crime! (Like a con-artist that becomes a politician or a priest or a TV preacher.) 3R&HW: Are you taking this album on the road like the others? JD22: Yes, it's my only way of connecting to people who want something other than what is being forced into their brains by the so-called expert programmers, official play lists and all the R. Murdocks of the world. 3R&HW: Thanks for sharing your insights about this album. JD2: My pleasure & with respect to this CD I'll say, Go Hug Someone You Love & thanks 4 reading & listening folks, C U on the Highway of life.
