Isn't she lovely? ~ My preference is for this as an instrumental more than a vocal piece of music. That's true for me for a lot of songs. I like the tunes and chords and the words often but I prefer to have them in my mind while I play, not in my ears while I listen You are the sunshine of my life ~ Another Stevie Wonder piece to kick off the album. The richness of this chord sequence allied to the simplicity of the melody in the verse, work to give a feel that fully supports the meaning of the song Is this love? ~ One of Bob's best tunes and nice as a kind of Latin feel for guitars. Samba pa ti ~ I've always thought this piece sounds great as a more acoustic sounding instrumental, as well as the heavier original Santana version. I've messed around with the chords a little, so I can solo how I want to Here comes the Sun ~ A simple finger-picking arrangement that I've enjoyed playing & teaching for many years. There are so many complex versions of this and ones that mess around with the music, I always want to keep within what suits in my opinion and this is it The look of love ~ Mr. Bacharach's best chord sequence in my opinion. So many dips from key to key and allusions to various characters in the music and such a lush melody. The words also sit on my mind while playing, changing in many ways their meaning, depending on how the tune is played each time Lovely day ~ I decided to have a go at making an arrangement for 2 guitars of this piece and the rhythm chord versions came to me in a matter of seconds! Really! They all use a couple of open strings, which gives a great feel and some fun extensions to some of the chords. It's a simple tune so a nice add-on is to play the first section in 3rd harmonies, to beef it up a little. The next section is more bluesy, so single notes make that more possible Secret love ~ Another tune where I love to have the words going through my head while playing it as an instrumental. Beautiful & very personal lyrics. I've gone for a low pedal note to give a basic drone note to revolve the chords & melody over, for the first part. Then it's nice to move the bass notes around with the melody and chords, when the words and sentiments get more complex And I love her ~ A classic Beatles tune using mostly minor chords, so refreshing sounding, while very memorable as well. Although it's a simple tune it is a great sequence to improvise over and lends itself to some flamenco/latin lead ideas Wave ~ This is my favourite Jobim chord sequence & melody and to my mind it works really well as an instrumental and much better than a vocal piece. I'm not a huge fan of the words but I love the music, with it's twisting chord sequence, key changes and chromatic movement within some of the chords Round Midnight ~ Thelonius Monk's wonderful ballad. I've loved this tune since I was very young but never came across a good solo guitar arrangement, so I worked out my own. Monk always sounded to me like he made time to think while playing and I've tried to preserve that feel in this arrangement Here, there & everywhere ~ I had doubts about including this piece, as so many have done it. But I like it as well and I've messed around with the chord changes to get my own feel to the arrangement, so here it is Adagio ~ One of the most beautiful themes for guitar. There are so many versions of this section of the Concerto. I hope mine, using some chord variations and various other little adjustments, works well for you. This is how I hear it. As I'm no great classical player I've aimed for an approach that to me hangs together as a slightly jazzier arrangement, giving me the chance to improvise a little without altering the character of the arrangement Thanks to: Our Son Gregory for the cover art. Elena & Leslie for making the Summer months work so I could get on with all this music. Bruce for his constant enthusiasm. Diego for his energetic support. Luka for his weird humour that just fits jazz.
