This first full-length offering from D&D Sluggers is 40 minutes of high-energy, super fun music. Utilizing obsolete and contemporary electronics and traditional instrumentation, the Wilmington, NC duo have stumbled upon a sound which reaches far further than other chiptune artists. With highly danceable rhythms like in the opening track, I Will Not Be There, D&D Sluggers set the bar high from the outset. Gloria, one of the album's more downbeat offerings, is laced with more than a taste of blues and hip-hop. Tracks like Very Direct call back fondly on classic R&B groove structures, and the closing track, Alive, bursts with in-your-face distorted power chords and a buzzy synth lead. D&D Sluggers are the masters of variety, their album's diverse set of moods unified by a beating heart of pure childlike fun.
