These personal songs seamlessly combine classical music themes with hard-edged R&B rhythms to create songs never heard before. In this album, Lara has given herself this opportunity to be incredibly honest, having written or co-written every song. “I knew exactly what I wanted to say and how I wanted it to sound musically. On past recordings, I was still trying to find myself… this time I had a better idea of myself as an artist”. The title track, “It’s My Time”, speaks volumes. “I have fully come to the table as an artist. I’m living my life exactly as I want to from the inside out.” This album is a testimonial to Lara’s new found conviction as an artist and a person. Assembling a stellar team to represent exactly who she is as an artist right now, she chose Grammy nominated George Landress to produce several of the album’s tracks. “George was incredible at working with me to incorporate the classical melodies into these songs while at the same time keeping the hip fresh sound that I wanted.” It's My Time: co-written and produced by George Landress, piano/ violin Lara Janine “This is the theme song of this album. “It’s my time. I’m flying high I’m living”. I am who I am. I love where I am with my career and with my music. I’m excited about the future and what it has in store for me. One of my favorite movies growing up was Amadeus and this song is based on one of Mozart’s Symphonies. We also shot a promotional video using this song, which was incredibly fun to shoot!” Add to the production team, artist/ electric violinist Dorian Cheah, who has worked with Celine Dion, En Vogue and MiG and the hit tunesmith, Michele Vice-Maslin who co-wrote with Matt Gerrard on "Get Over Yourself," a #1 pop hit for Eden’s Crush and the third biggest-selling pop single of 2001. Undeniable: co-written and produced by Dorian Cheah and Michele Vice-Maslin “I had worked with Dorian before. He’s also a great violinist besides a producer/writer and understands classical music. He invited Michele to our writing session and it was a great match. I was excited to hear our song was used in an episode of the television show “Degrassi”. “Undeniable” is also about finding your center, “spell is broken, I can breathe”, whether it’s through a person, through spirituality or from within.” Most of this CD is based on her classical roots. Themes from Mozart and Bach have been intertwined with the song’s melodies. Lara plays them herself on the piano and violin on most of the album’s songs. “I would come in with a classical piece that was one of my favorites growing up and we’d throw a beat down and start messing with the melody and watch the song evolve.” Stop Parannoying Me: co-written and produced by Ken Larish. “I call this my stalker song haha. I can laugh now but at the time I think it was one of the scariest moments of my life. I had met someone who ended up not being who he said he was…the thoughts that run through your head…that if they can make up all this…why are they doing that? What is their real motivation? I truly felt my life was in danger because I had no idea what this person was capable of. Ken already had this track and as soon as I heard that eerie melodic pattern I thought of that time and knew exactly what this song was going to be about.” Bittersweet Serenade: co-written and produced by George Landress, piano/ violin Lara Janine “This is based on another Mozart song: Concerto in G. It’s about that point in a relationship when you finally realize it’s over, and this time you’re not going to make up like you had many times before. It’s easy to get trapped by the security of the “familiar”, even when you know it’s not right for you. You finally reach a point where you’re strong enough to let go and walk away, and you’re a better person because of it. I Like The Middle (featuring Sam Sarpong): co-written and produced by Ken Larish, piano/violin Lara Janine “I love this one! It’s sexy and confident, and just plain fun. Sam added such a great vibe to this track with his rap. In this industry, everyone has a different idea of what you need to do and how you should be in order to survive and succeed, especially for girls. You can get yourself into trouble and succumb to the “darker side” of the industry. Well, I’m not about to let that happen. I was brought up with morals and values and I have refused to compromise that. I am who I am and am I happy with that. I never was into drugs or anything too extreme. Oh all right, haha-- I was always the good girl.” To bring in his fresh urban feel, Lara enlisted D-Wiz, the producer/ engineer who has worked with acts such as C-BO, Two-Way Hustle, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, E-40 and Sick Wid It Umbrella. Just Like That: written by Lara Janine, produced by D-wiz, piano/violin Lara Janine “I remember the exact moment I started writing this song. It seemed like nothing was working out…none of the right producers were showing up, no boyfriend, no callbacks…and I walked into this audition and nailed it. They loved me and wanted to see me again and I walked out of there on cloud nine. My mood had completely changed and I just started laughing at how easy it was to shift. I had an hour to kill before my next recording session so I just stayed in the car and started writing this song. “Just like that I’m back in the game” . It’s also a great theme song for sporting events. The Orange County Register used it in a football video clip! I also made a clip of the USC vs NOTRE DAME game with the hopes that USC would use the song—it perfectly matched those final minutes!” Let’s Get It On: co-written and produced by George Landress, piano/ violin Lara Janine “Yep, that is Vivaldi’s Four Seasons intertwined with the melody. This is another one of my fun songs: no-holds-barred. No seriousness with this one—it’s all “go with the flow and see where it leads.” I have a tendency to try to control things but with this one it’s all about having fun and not trying to control the outcome. I have to pay attention to that in my life more often.” Rounding out the already powerful mix, Lara returned to composer/producer Gerry Stober, who has composed songs for Aaron Neville, Rachael Lampa, No Mercy, Canadian Idol Audrey de Montigny, Jane Fostin and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Lara also brought in Adam Kagan, engineer for such diverse acts as O-Town, DMX, and Aaron Neville. So Long Goodbye: co-written with Gerry Stober; Produced by Gerry Stober and Othentic; mixed by Adam Kagan “I had recorded one of Gerry’s songs for my previous EP and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to write with him. He came over to my house and we sat down at my piano and wrote the entire song in that session. Add some guitars in the studio and it rocks out! It is great to perform live! I had just been hurt by someone I admired and respected-yelling and crying and there was nothing more to be said. I was in shock that someone I was so close to could be a completely different person when extraneous factors don’t work out and affect your relationship. I was hurt big time by this one, which definitely came through when belting it out in the studio. When I Get You Home: written by Lara Janine produced by D-Wiz, piano/ violin Lara Janine “You guessed it—Bach’s Toccata and Fugue. I played on a grand piano at D-Wiz’s studio for this one. I had already written the song and played D-Wiz the piano/ vocal. He loved it. It was so exciting to be able to flesh out this song with everything that was already in my head -- we just built the track around it. He allowed me to be so hands-on in creating this track…playing string parts, bass lines, and drum patterns. He was actually in San Francisco and I drove by myself from Los Angeles and stayed with a family friend. We would work for a couple days and then I’d have to be back in LA for rehearsals for another musical I was in. We did that three times and recorded 3 songs! Loving You: written by Lara Janine; produced by George Landress; piano Lara Janine “This is my most personal song. Another one from Mozart: Lacrymosa. Haunting, moody, intimate. I had loved this piece forever, and had it in the back of my mind for almost a year. I tried writing to it a couple times but it wasn’t right and I always trashed it. I had 2 weeks before I was leaving for Japan and the record had to be completed. I felt that a good piano ballad was still missing and I was set on using Lacrymosa. I had the piano arrangement figured out and a basic melody but still no lyrics. We recorded the piano and had set up a date to record the vocal two days before my plane took off. The night before I brainstormed ideas but nothing completely finalized or gelled. I did have the experience I knew I wanted to write about so I went to bed with lyric ideas swimming in my head and woke up the next morning hours before the session and the whole song was there. I opened my eyes, grabbed a pen and paper and wrote the lyrics in 5 minutes. What an incredible feeling.” No stranger to performing, Lara has been seen in the role of Otilie in “Dvorak in America” (Director David Galligan/ Choreographer Lee Martino). The Los Angeles Times says, "Lara Janine, a violinist and actor, is the standout as Dvorák's life-hungry daughter", Backstage West says of Lara’s performance, “Janine gives Otilie a refreshing touch of youthful gaucherie", and KCLA Radio says regarding Lara’s star quality, "With her beautiful voice and innocence...will be a big star" She also portrayed Jasmine in “Aladdin the Musical” (Director Stefan Novinski/ Musical Director Todd Schroeder). Currently in Osaka, Japan finishing up a run playing Elphaba in “Wicked”, Lara says, “I am having a wonderful time in Japan and am excited about building a fan base here as well! I’ve already started performing music from this new CD and the reaction has been phenomenal ” She has been a Featured Artist along with Britney Spears and Destiny’s Child on Trollz.com and was nominated three years in a row by the Orange County Music Awards, including Best Alternative Artist and Best Female Artist. Two of her songs, "Let Me Put It To You This Way" and "Walking Away" (written with Amy Powers and Mike Busbee) both entered the Broadjam.com Top Ten. Lara was awarded Top Female Vocalist in Pop & Overall by Garageband.com and her songs, "Just To Be Loved By You", "Walking Away", and "Let Me Put It To You This Way" won Track of the Day, as well as, multiple Reviewer Awards on the Garageband.com website. She was also awarded Top Female Vocalist by the California Thespian Festival. Lara has been heard regularly singing the National Anthem for this year's Stanley Cup Champions, The Anaheim Ducks! Her beautiful voice can also be heard as the voice of the singing Barbie doll “Princess Anneliese” and her singing is featured on many Barbie commercials for Mattel. Her songs have been featured on programs such as Access Hollywood, Degrassi, and How Do I Look? Lara Janine is a force of nature. Singing and playing to capture what she hears inside. She has translated this completely into her new CD. She is a true artist and has found her voice, which is embodied in every word, every note. To see her perform is sublime perfection. What she does on stage is all that she’s ever wanted to do, ever and she comes vibrantly alive as the music drives her and moves her. “It’s My Time” captures this and all that she is right now. “It’s My Time” is available here at larajanine.com, CDBABY.COM, iTunes and myspace.com/larajanine
