简介

The Tyrants (Michael J and Abbe Kanter) and Trans-X fire up the old school drum machines and analog synths to create a mind-blowing fusion of Italo-HiNrg & Deep House. Trancey, ethereal keyboards weave around AbbeAbbe’s powerful vocals, and the lyrics add some striking religious and pagan imagery. Highlights are the swirling Montreal Mix, the DJ genius mix with its cool jazzy piano drops, and DJ Miguel Plasencia’s Santeria influenced dub remix. ------- Official Press Release: Tyrants in Therapy meet Trans X in the heavenly Om Shanti Om. Some dance records have great beats, others have great melodies, and still others have an unforgettable message. But Om Shanti Om is something special, even for a group like Tyrants in Therapy who are famous for blending music and metaphor into dance classics like Too Tuff To Cry, Perfect Love, and Once Upon A Time. A meeting of the minds with a truly international pedigree, Om Shanti Om is a result of an ongoing collaboration between the L.A. based Tyrants and Pascal (Living on Video) Languirand who lives all over the globe, including Spain, Canada, and Mexico. "We started writing Om Shanti one summer in the late 90s, when Pascal was visiting from Barcelona," recalls AbbeAbbe, The Tyrants' lead vocalist, "One steamy night, we had a glass or 2 of red wine and went into our studio. Pascal started riffing on our red Stratocaster, and Tyrant Michael was fiddling with some old Roland drum machines. Then out of nowhere, I began channeling unknown spirits… and the words came tumbling out. I grabbed a pen and started writing down the mystical thoughts that were running through my mind, and a few hours later the song was born." T.I.T. and Trans X recorded some preliminary tracks in the Tyrants' Atollsonique recording studio. A few weeks later, Pascal returned to Spain, and then back to his native Montreal, and the future of Om Shanti Om seemed in doubt. But The Tyrants had faith in the song, and continued to develop it in L.A., recording additional keyboards, percussion, guitar and vocals. "When the vocals were finished," says Tyrant Michael, "We sent the sound files to Montreal, where Pascal and Sylvain LaRose totally re-imagined the original Om into a whirling dervish of a track…like Alice in Wonderland on peyote." "We had 2 distinct mixes," continues AbbeAbbe, "But Michael said 'why stop there,' so we brought in Miguel Plasencia who, as usual, came up with something completely different with his At Om in the House DJ Remix that blends Hi-NRG, Italo Disco, and House elements into a 5 minute masterpiece." Most groups might have been satisfied, but not The Tyrants. They enlisted the avant garde German DJ Frank Rothkamm (aka DJ Genius) for an alternative version of Om Shanti Om. "It was a leap of faith for us to call in a guy like Frank," says Tyrant Michael, "Because his style of music was 180 degrees away from ours. But after hearing the first 20 seconds of his mix, I knew why he got the name Genius. His DJ Genius Remix was so completely different than anything else on the record, but still so right. It blew our mind." "Kind of like drinking an LSD martini and listening to The Shirelles," confides AbbeAbbe. Now all versions of Om Shanti Om (including T.I.T.'s own NYC Mix, an acapella, and an instrumental) are now available on Emotional Coathanger Records via iTunes, Amazon, cdbaby.com, and most other online music stores.
