"Laniakea" is a piece that has been written in-between long haul work trips, in-between the earth and the sky. Laniakea is a word that has been haunting me for a while: it's a name of a supercluster that the Solar System, the Milky Way and Earth are part of. In a way, that's a very broad definition of home - and around the time when I wrote this piece I surely had to expand my idea of what home was. That tiny apartment where I had my base while working on the song, felt like the top of the world - barely is there a place in Copenhagen from which you can see the entire skyline, from where the sky looks open and uncluttered. I remember walking into the apartment and immediately being smitten by the sky that rushed into the room through the gigantic windows - shades of blue, charcoal grey, indigo, peach, pink, yellow flowing into the room and overpowering the room itself. I would leave the shutters open at night and watch the stars light up one at a time, guessing the constellations while lying in bed. "Laniakea" that was written during that time in Copenhagen, is a way to bring together the upside down world inside my head. It is those short landings at home while spending most of my time up in the sky, being home and feeling grounded while still being overwhelmed by the vastness of the city's skyline and the space above.
