Stripped of any religious connotations, the ancient Greek word Dunamis is featured here strictly in its secular sense. Namely, as in the power of vocation, of allure, of aesthetic calling. Contrary to the word Exusiai—the authoritative power of conquest, order, subjugation—Dunamis refers to the mystical power that draws toward the unknown, the awe-inspiring, the sublime. The two versions of the title track feature the same real-time stereo recording of a no-input-mixer performance. The last track is the bare recording of that performance. In Track 2 there are additional layers of sound: a field recording of nocturnal insects, as well as various acoustic instruments and objects recorded one at a time with a single microphone. Almost all of these layered recordings are takes of the same duration as the the main stereo track, with no cuts or overdubs. The shorter pieces are fully acoustic and captured with the same single-mic technique. Minimal processing was applied during postproduction. No-input mixer+fx, cello, field recordings, objects.
