The song, We the People, represents SaNa’s attempt to express her desire that “We all can get along”. And, by doing so, we can all be happy. When she introduced the project to the SaNa Sounds staff, they jumped on it without hesitation. The first task was to find a lead singer who could deliver a believable message. All eyes pointed to Victoria Fuqua. Her style and presentation adds strength to the lyrics. SaNa’s son, Kenyatta Tate, wrote the rap part within half an hour. It was as though he knew how to reach out to those who speak the language and encourage them to heed the message. SaNa knew she wanted the hook to be sung in different languages because “We the people must evolve or die!” She, Biggg Shady and Tony Williams called on friends, Victoria Fuqua – English, Claudia Swartz – German, N Abdul – Arabic, Rachael Wilson – Japanese, Felicita Romero - Spanish/Portuguese, and Diamond Dominy – French/Spanish. They came into the studio without ever hearing the song. They were able to interpret the lyrics in a way that blended right into the tracks Tony had mixed. Finally, SaNa called on her cousin, Derrick Showes, to introduce the song and commit himself to helping us all get along when he grows up. We must embrace our youth and expose them to a more inclusive paradigm for resolving world problems. SaNa said the words; “We the people throughout the land gotta work together hand-in-hand. Let me give to you the reason why; we the people must evolve or die!” flowed through her mind as she watched the political debates. It saddened her as the political sides fought each other in the name of their constituents. The name calling and out pouring of racism, sexism and classism brought tears to her heart. She felt reborn and revived while waiting in line to vote for the first African American President, Barack H. Obama. Yes, there was pride that he was an African American. But, more than that, she believed he would be the right choice to bring America together. No matter the political party, race, gender, religion, age, or other great characteristic that makes us different, someone has to help us use these characteristics to make America great. If we don’t evolve, we will die! Now that Obama is in his second term, SaNa trusts that all political parties will use this opportunity to work together and show the world that we all can get along under this administration and all those to come. We are the role model. The world is watching.
