简介
"I'm the tallest blues beltin' leprechaun you'll ever meet.", said Eric 'Red Mouth' Gebhardt. True enough, but he's more than that. This foot stomping, gospel shouting troubadour almost seems to come from another time, perhaps another planet. "It's like the Devil is defiantly in the room." - Bob Reuter, KDHX St. Louis. Sure, influences can be found. From John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters to the Stooges and Captain Beefheart, and even Waylon Jennings and a bit of Scott Walker. But this troubadour (which he truly is, tuna and ramien are his diet) is all his own. He travels the country side with a wood riser for a drum, his guitar and Fender Twin and his...mouth. "His is truly an arresting and powerfully evocative voice in American music," - Bao Le-Huu, the Orlando Weekly. And his new record, Saint Red Mouth, finally shows off this voice the way it should be heard. Recorded live with friends Bryan Farris on guitar and Brian Conner on washtub bass, to add a little meat to your speakers, is like a fist in the face of armageddon (i.e. I Don't Want To Wake No More and Won't Be Much Longer Blues). There are a few soft spots as well (i.e. The Darkness of My Mind and A Wish I Wish I Had). Like the last man on Earth reminiscing on what use to be. Recording with Lynn Bridges at 414 turned out to be the perfect environment for capturing Saint Red Mouth. And with an excellent mastering job by Kramer, this armageddon comes to life. Red has shared the stage with acts as varied as the Black Diamond Heavies and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, the South Memphis String Band and the Reverend Dead Eye, Against Me and Thomas Function. However, while recording, Red was informed that his label, Blues in London Records, was shutting down. Alone again, he is not dismayed. Armed with this powerful new record, Eric 'Red Mouth' Gebhardt is a viking approaching the shore. Glenn Piston 2009 P.S. "Red Mouth has the blues in his stomach." - Visions Magazine, Germany
