简介
The Shrine of the Little Flower is a lil church at the edge of Detroit and--now--lends its name to the latest Murder Mystery EP. The boys have done 6 EP's over the past 10 years and, like that lil building, this disc finds the group at the top of their form crafting hard edged songs around indie rock hooks. The Shrine of the Little Flower was recorded over several days in the middle of a harsh Detroit winter. Arrangements for songs were at the forefront, each song carrying dynamic qualities that need to shimmer and howl with the listener. 'Jackyl' opens with a blast of crashing cymbals before shifting into a theremin induced rock out. 'Foot Bass' and 'Heavy' may be the group's catchiest songs so far. The former discusses ego-centrism while the latter is an ode to so many other great bands of the current scene (Elle and the Fonts and Prussia--most notably). The importance of Detroit (its at the root) on these recordings and songs cannot be overstated. 'Sheila Rides the Bull' and 'Bonzo' uproot that root and use it to rock the disc to a close. Mastering was handled by Ben Arsenault of Peerless Mastering in Boston. Ben fought off a range of maladies to produce Murder Mystery's most pristine listen to date. Packaging was designed by Jess "Glasshopper" Smiley, an artist from Utah. Known for his whimsical approach, Jess is the visual connect to the aural experience. There are few things worth doing in this life. Two of them are rocking out and having a good time. Just gimme indie rock!
