The Family Ties started as a personal journey to rediscover the importance of family in my life. Fresh off of my previous release, Manifest Destiny Express, I've had some new developments in my life. I got married. I started seminary school. I had a shift in my job which caused some difficulty in household finances. I was dealing with a lot while trying to remain faithful with family, ministry responsibilities, and being a husband. As a result I was very contemplative. As I began to craft beats, search for beats from other producers, and write lyrics, I began to reflect on the importance of family to the society as a whole. Marriages today are fragile. More and more young people are growing up in broken homes. Neighborhoods have been disrupted by violence and poor police community relations. I began to wonder why. Have we lost something? Did we lose sight of what is important? Has the NBA become more important than the PTA? Has reality TV taken us down a path of destruction? I don't have all the answers, but I did try to deal with these questions and reconcile our present state of the family. This album is my most mature work to date. I spent time with this. I listened to God. I read my word and tried to put something together that will help people to look at what they can do to make the family the center of our communities again. If we want a stronger country, we need stronger communities. If we want stronger communities, we need stronger families. If we want stronger families, we need stronger marriages.
