简介
The latest single from left feminist swing collective Cats and Dinosaurs from Gothenburg, Sweden, now for the first time ever in ENGLISH!! Their unique take on old school jazz and blues, with fiercely political lyrics in their native tounge Swedish, they have gained a cult following all over the world. One of their fans include DJ Jesse Miner of the podcast Hey Mister Jesse, who describes them like this: ”They tore the box open, they climbed out of the box, they stomped on the box, they lit the box on fire and then they peed on it in a non-gender specific way. That’s what, to me, Cats & Dinosaurs bring to the table. Politically charged, young, very left-leaning political energy. I love it, I can’t get enough of these guys! They’ve got a real unique thing going on…" A huge part of the Cats and Dinosaurs experience is of course the lyrics, and now for the first they have translated one of the songs to english: "Consensual Blues". The song is a dirty blues inspired by the likes of Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey, and celebrates consensual sex, drawing on the rich dirty talk heritage of the jazz and blues. To bring some extra heat "Consensual Blues" also features guest vocalist Christoffer Johansson, singing an erotic duet with the band's lead singer Filip Bagewitz. On top of all that the song is also part of a burlesque act by the feminist burlesque artist Märit, AKA Tittysaurus Sex, which is also captured in the single's music video filmed by award-winning film maker Camilla Topuntoli. ABOUT THE BAND The socialist feminist swing collective Cats & Dinosaurs have since their first gig on Election Day in 2014 made it their mission to remind us all that jazz was the punk of the twenties. Unlike other swing bands, they play only original songs, all with political lyrics (and formerly always in Swedish). With their irresistibly catchy songs, and radical analysis, they quickly became the new favorites of many a swing aficionado, as well being frequently banned and canceled for being ”to political”. In the spring of 2016 they released their debut album ”Swing på barrikaderna" (Swing on the barricades) on the independet artist-owned record label collective PACAYA records and their music began to spread to a wider audience both at home in Sweden and abroad. The album was accompanied ny a string of stop motion videos. Just a year later, they returned with their second album "Kapitalismen är en dröm". The Swedish title translate to ”Capitalism Is A Dream”. Both albums where full of the playful old timey jazz, punk energy and poetically political texts that has been the bands trademark since day one. And both featured amazing art work by Sara Granér, one of Sweden ́s most famous socialist feminist comics artists. PRESS VOICES ABOUT ”SWING PÅ BARRIKADERNA” ”The political allegiances are clear, but they mix placard texts with a tongue- in-cheek sensibility. And boy, it swings!” - PM Jönsson, Göteborgsposten (4/5) ”There are also soft songs to sway together to, perhaps giving an even better opportunity to reflect on the lyrics that are more poetically thoughtfull than dogmatic.” - Josephine Askegård,Arbetaren ”The humor and satire climbs in from different directions, and it swings genuine. The musicians in the collective can play.” - Alexander Agrell, Sydsvenskan ”A Swedish Scott Bradlee but still so different.” - Jan-Erik Zandersson, Universum Noll ”We need this band” - Andreas Michalke, Jungle World ”A young, talented group who are putting a spin on the swing music we love. This album is great, I hope everyone ́s gonna love it!” - Jesse Miner, Hey Mister Jesse
