Realised in various studios in and around his home base of Lyon in France in 1992 and 1993, "Mue" is Lionel Marchetti's first outing on his colleague and frequent playing partner Jérôme Noetinger's Metamkine Cinéma Pour L'Oreille ("Cinema for the ear") label. Marchetti's sensitivity to poetry is a constant feature of his oeuvre, and "Mue" sets a text by William Pellier (performed by the poet himself and the falsetto "voix de tête" of Hervé Bocquin). Its fairy-tale imagery is well adapted to Marchetti's subtle studio transformations, with their exquisitely crafted sense of depth and spatial separation. Noetinger's criteria of selection for the Cinéma Pour L'Oreille collection is that the works featured extend the pioneering concepts of French musique concrète; Marchetti's work, with its sensitivity to both spoken word and sung text, inscribes itself directly in the tradition of the genre, recalling at times the sensuality of François Bayle and the craftsmanship of Bernard Parmegiani and Pierre Henry.
