简介

Leighton Kennedy debuts as a solo artist, but he is no stranger to the recording industry as an indie artist. He was part of the freshman album of the Massachusetts based gospel sextet, We R Perswaded in 2001. He began to venture into the world of music early in his life singing in church choirs, vocal ensembles, duets, quartets, and sextet’s from the 80’s to the present; he also played clarinet and saxophone in bands and an orchestra in the mid 90's. His instrumental influence began around 8 years old when his mother began to teach him the piano. His lack of passion for the instrument at 14 led his parent’s to encourage him to play his brother’s old clarinet; so he taught himself to play and his quick progress led his high school band teacher to add the saxophone to his repertoire. It was while attending college that Leighton took the opportunity to be a part of many musical experiences, though his career focus was in healthcare as a nurse. Following college, while working as a nurse by day his musical pursuits became more serious in the singing arena with We R Perswaded. During this era he would share the stage with many gospel artists including Kirk Franklin, Alvin Slaughter, Bostonbased Here 2 Praise, Kurt Carr, James Hall, Courtney Fadlin, and many others. Over the past year, as a saxophonist, he has opened for Jaci Velasquez and J.J. Hairston and Youthful Praise. Playing the saxophone quickly faded in the late 90’s until 2006 when Leighton’s passion for playing the saxophone could not lay dormant through his graduate educational pursuits. He would complete his master’s in nursing and begin to relearn the instrument he knew that he would one day use to bless others with. Leighton’s musical influences are Take 6, Commissioned, Fred Hammond, Donald Hayes, Gerald Albright, David Sanborn, Nelson Rangell, Courtney Fadlin and many others. The "My Heart" album is led by the smooth, yet edgy, melodic saxophone of Leighton and surrounded with the clean, complementary instrumentation by co-producer Reginald Reid (www.rreidproductions.com). He is joined on title track by former vocal group brother, David Hunte and his wife Michelle, to deliver the message that our heart depends on God. This ten track album is surrounded with studio musicians, which brought the music to life. Urban Junction East's track production on "Wholly Thine" with guitarist Mike "Nomad" Ripoll and bassist Jackie Clark, all the way to the cutting guitar solo of Dana Reed on "No Greater Love", the complementary guitar strokes of Fabiano DaSilva on Marching to Zion, and the rhythms of Matthew Jackson on multiple tracks has brought the music to life for your hearing and blessing. So get on the My Heart journey as Dewtime Music presents Leighton Kennedy's debut album.
