简介
Dewtime Music is pleased to announce the release of the debut single, “My Heart” from it’s founding artist Leighton Kennedy. Dewtime Music recording artist Leighton Kennedy debuts as a solo artist, but he is no stranger to the recording industry as an indie artist. He was part of the freshman album of the Massachusetts based gospel sextet, We R Perswaded in 2001. The Jamaican born, U.S. raised musician ventured into the world of music early in his life singing in church choirs, vocal ensembles, quartets, and sextet’s through the 80’s, 90’s, and to the present. His instrumental influence began around 8 years old when his mother began to teach him the piano. His lack of passion for the instrument at 14 led his parent’s to encourage him to play his brother’s old clarinet, which quickly led his high school band teacher to add the saxophone to the repertoire. It was while attending Atlantic Union College in Massachusetts that Leighton took the opportunity to be a part of many musical experiences, though his career focus was in healthcare as a nurse. Following college, while working as a nurse by day his musical pursuits became more serious in the singing arena with We R Perswaded. During this era he would share the stage with many gospel artists including Kirk Franklin, Alvin Slaughter, Boston-based Here 2 Praise, Kurt Carr, James Hall, Courtney Fadlin, and many others. Playing the saxophone quickly faded in the late 90’s until 2006 when Leighton’s passion for playing the saxophone could not lay dormant through his graduate educational pursuits. He would complete his master’s in nursing and begin to relearn the instrument he knew that he would one day use to bless others with. Leighton’s musical influences are Take 6, Commissioned, Fred Hammond, Donald Hayes, Gerald Albright, David Sanborn, Nelson Rangell, Courtney Fadlin and many others. “My Heart” is led by the smooth melodic soprano saxophone of Leighton and surrounded with the clean, complementary instrumentation by co-producer Reginald Reid (www.rreidproductions.com). Leighton joins featured vocalists, David and Michelle Hunte, to deliver the message that the heart is depends on God. Through the inspiration of an old gospel lullaby, he delivers a timeless message through contemporary artistry. My Heart is simply about making your own heart the place for the Spirit of God to dwell; you just need to ask and make it available. You should also know that in order to have a new (renewed) heart, it must be completely submitted to Him.”
