简介
From a shy yet talented youngster, mature beyond her years to an expressive and compelling singer/songwriter. That has been the journey taken by CrY, and the outcome of her voyage is now vividly exemplified on her emotional singles “HeartBroken” and “And I” on her first self-titled album (release date TBA). Born Keisha McLeggon in Scarborough, Canada, Keisha for the most part grew up in the suburbs of Ajax, Ontario with her parents and younger brother. Like most black children moving from a predominately African-Canadian environment to a practically all white neighborhood, some painful childhood experiences resulted along with opportunities of growth and discovery. “I was picked on a lot when I was younger, sometimes just because I was black, other times because of the way I looked. I was called big nose and elephant legs a lot. It was in those times I usually retreated by myself and wrote…stories, poems, then songs. That’s why I tell people I’m a writer before a singer, as I did that way before I actually opened my mouth.” Keisha's life has been a challenging journey with many lows and highs further fuelling her creative angst, pouring her tears, feelings of betrayal, heartache and perseverance on paper. Equally talented in conveying submission to God as well as bitterness towards life, it was then that CrY was officially born, never again to be hidden. “I thank Jesus for everything I’ve done, everything I am and everything I’m going to be. Most times I don’t agree with what He allows me to go through, most times I’m actually quite pissed off at Him…but I’m here ain’t I? That says something.” Keisha has been writing her own material for ten years, creating songs in R&B, Alternative, Pop, and Gospel genres. Keisha continues to enhance her songwriting abilities while stretching her vocals, as well as learning acoustic guitar.
