简介

If you're looking for a song to play every morning to put a smile on your face, this is the one. On CDbaby you'll discover my taste and style varies greatly. This song may come as a surprise to some of my fans but its early Jazz rhythms and sweet melody and lyrics are infectious. In the summer of 2012 I was in Portland, Oregon at a bed and breakfast watching cable TV, which I don't have at home, and caught an animated movie that had already started called, "Sita Sings the Blues". The movie is a juxtaposition of a Hindu legend with the music of Annette Hanshaw, an early Jazz singer from the 1920's and 1930's. Hanshaw was a favorite guest artist of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and other big band leaders of the 1930's. Surprisingly this ancient Jazz music and the images in "Sita Sings the Blues" seem like they are a perfect fit for each other. I believe the Hanshaw version of this song in "Sita Sings the Blues" is from the early 1930's, but the original version is from a 1920's movie entitled "My Man" and was sung by Fannie Brice, a very famous singer of the decade. In fact the movie "Funny Girl" from 1968 is based on her life but I've never heard the Fanny Brice version or any recordings of this song after the 1930's. In order to create my version of the song I listened and analyzed the Hanshaw version. Then I found two ebay auctions of the original sheet music, one for $200 and the other for $12. I bought the $12 sheet music and created an arrangement for guitar. My Buenos Aires friends and musicians joined in with just a chord chart. Like my latest CD release, "Con los Porteños", I am accompanied by talented Buenos Aires musicians José Rios (bass), Leandro Savelon (drums), and Fernando Lerman (soprano sax). I recorded my guitar and the bassist in my apartment in Buenos Aires in the neighborhood called, "Barrio Norte" in January 2013. The drums and soprano sax were recorded one at a time at a recording studio in Buenos Aires called "Estudiopuntoar" by engineer and owner Ariel Gato and the final mix was completed by April 1, 2013. I'll say it again. If you're looking for a song to play every morning to put a smile on your face, this is the one!
