Adam Maalouf's record "Future Tribe" is a re-imagining of traditional music from around the globe, featuring both ancient and modern musical instruments. The unique element of the music is the use of the Pantam(or Handpan), which is the UFO shaped steel pan instrument invented in Switzerland at the turn of the century. The pantam, played by me, meets ancient musical elements such as carnatic violin by Arun Ramamurthy, middle eastern oud and nay by Tomchess, multi-lingual vocals by Shelley Thomas and global percussion by Jeremy Smith.

I believe that the influences in this record are stemming from what I see as the "World Music Renaissance" currently happening in Brooklyn and the surrounding areas through the work of ensembles and organizations such as The World Music Institute, The Brooklyn Raga Massive(Indian), Brooklyn Nomads(Arabic) and several other great ensembles and organizations. It is more important now than ever to showcase music and culture from Eastern countries. I recorded this album after a trip to India and the Mid East, studying traditional styles of music to further synthesize these elements into my own compositional voice.
